Nestled in the heart of the Saint-Chinian appellation in Languedoc, Château Fonsalade is an historic estate that has always produced quality white, red and rosé wines.
The Château’s name comes from the Occitan ‘Font Salat’ meaning salty fountain. It stems from the naturally salty spring rising on the property. The unique qualities of the water and its antiseptic properties are essential for the eco-friendly farming methods used in the vineyards.
The Château’s 25 hectares of vines cover a patchwork of six different soil types ranging from clay-limestone to pebbles and schist. These are home to a similarly broad array of grape varieties, nine in total – including Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Cabernet – each of which can thus fully reveal its potential.
Coupled with a variety of elevations, painstaking winemaking techniques and low yields, these produce a comprehensive selection of complex and radically different wines.
