Champagne Gosset: Cultivating excellence

Over the past twenty years, Champagne’s oldest house has shown consistency, growth, faultless quality and professionalism. At the same time, though, it has also allowed its image and influence to benefit others, most notably deserving representatives of the gourmet food sector and sommellerie, and more recently, charities.

 

Champagne Gosset: The Celebris Trophy is 20

The Gosset Celebris Trophy is celebrating the first of two anniversaries this year. For the past twenty years, the Trophy has honoured personalities from the world of gourmet food and wine. This year, award-winning top chefs and sommeliers from past events will be convening at the Pavillon Cambon-Capucines in Paris. The chefs’ iconic recipes have been revisited for the occasion as a tribute. Every year since 1995, Champagne Gosset has paid tribute to culinary and human initiatives, personal projects involving a new and unusual take on cooking or showcasing specific products and more generally a region. 

 

Champagne Gosset: The winners of the 20th Trophy

Jean-Pierre Cointreau, chairman of Champagne Gosset, and the Gosset Celebris Trophy panel have selected two projects for their excellence and their sense of sharing:

The ‘Gourmet Food Initiative’ Trophy was awarded to Michel Guérard for the Michel Guérard Institute – School of Healthy Cooking. A major advocate and virtual inventor of healthy cooking, Michel Guérard, now in his mid-80s, delivered a high level speech, singing the praises of healthy, educational cooking and bemoaning the fact that the food industry has sacrificed these values in recent decades for the sake of profit and consumer loyalty. The Michel Guérard Institute is a unique school, allowing students to understand how everyday cooking can have an impact on health. 

The ‘Panel Chairs’ Special Prize’ was awarded to Alain Passard for his work in promoting vegetables which he began over a decade ago. Neither vegetarian nor particularly environmentally-driven, the food prepared by the chef at the Arpège restaurant is delicious and honest. The vegetables grown in the three kitchen gardens created by Alain Passard are home to over 500 different varieties!

 

Champagne Gosset: 430 years old

The second anniversary is that of the Champagne house itself. It dates back to 1584, no less, making Henri IV one of the brand’s potential aficionados! On a more serious note, Gosset is Champagne’s oldest house, established in Aÿ, and has chosen to celebrate its 430th anniversary with the launch of a collector’s blend of… 430 magnums called ‘430 ans’. Jean-Pierre Mareignier, chief wine maker for over thirty years, is in charge of the blend which combines three of the best vintages from the 1990s: 1995, 1996 and 1998. Bottled exclusively in magnums, the wines are blended from 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir sourced from the great growth villages of Ambonnay, Aÿ, Bouzy and Verzenay. They have matured for at least fifteen years, imparting exceptional complexity and fullness to the wines.
